Struggling to Connect to GUWireless? Here's How to Fix Windows 11 Update Issues Fast

Published: 08/27/2024

Windows 11

You might have received straightforward step-by-step instructions to update your computer and run a FortiNAC scan to connect to GUWireless. However, some Windows 11 laptops are failing to manually update to version 23H2 through settings. I experienced the same issue while trying to connect to GUWireless and here is what I tried:

Download Windows 11 Installation Assistant

The Windows 11 Installation Assistant is a tool provided by Microsoft that assists users in upgrading their current Windows operating system to Windows 11. It checks if your PC meets the minimum system requirements for Windows 11 and guides you through the upgrade process if it does. This tool is especially useful for users who want to upgrade to Windows 11, but are not seeing the upgrade option through Windows Update or want to perform a clean installation.

Steps:

  1. Download the Windows 11 Installation Assistant from Microsoft's official website.
  2. Double-click on the downloaded file to open and install the Installation Assistant. (This might take a second and your laptop will restart afterwards.)
  3. Next, follow the previous steps from ITS: Select Start > Settings > type in Windows Update in the search box, then select Check for updates. Once there, select the Check for updates Install all the updates and then re-scan your computer using FortiNAC. (This can be accessed from connect.gannon.edu.)

To check the version you are currently on, search for the Run application (press Windows + R) and type “winver.” The result should show that you are on the version of 23H2, otherwise rescanning will not be successful.

Pro tip: Instead of using your mobile hotspot, connect to the internet using an Ethernet cable for faster download.

By following these steps, you should be able to get your laptop updated and connect to GUWireless smoothly. If you arere still having trouble, do not hesitate to reach out to ITS for additional support.
